Santa Clarita Crime Sees Increase In Assault, Robbery In 2017

Violent crime in Santa Clarita rose in 2017 by seven percent from the last year, according to a report released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in February.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials have released a year-end report, detailing that crime in Santa Clarita was up about three percent at the end of 2017 when compared to the previous crime rate in 2016.

This includes an almost three percent rise in crimes committed within the city of Santa Clarita, and a six percent rise in crimes committed in unincorporated areas of the Santa Clarita Valley, including Stevenson Ranch and Castaic.

The total of violent crimes committed in 2017 was 439, which is up over seven percent from the 2016 total of 409, according to L.A. Sheriff’s officials.

This includes an almost four percent increase in rape, a four percent increase in robbery, and over a 10 percent increase in aggravated assault, Sheriff’s officials detailed. The criminal homicide rate remained unchanged from 2017 when compared to 2016, according to officials.

The total of property crimes committed in 2017 was 3,961, which is up about three percent from the 2016 total of 3,843, according to Sheriff’s officials.

This includes an almost one percent increase in burglary, an over four percent increase in larceny theft, and an over four percent increase in arson, according to officials. In this same category, there has also been a one percent decrease in grand theft auto.

  1. Welcome to the new Los Angeles. Had to keep advertising Santa Clarita until we got all the trash up here. It used to be the best place to live. Very sad.

  3. Too bad Jerry Browns stupid train isn’t completed, once they have been booked, and released here locally (Thanks to his Get Out of Jail Free Program), we could transport all those wonderful people committing these crimes up north and drop them off on his front yard.
