Monday’s incident is the latest of several being handled by the station’s COBRA team, which investigates burglaries, robberies and assaults, in addition to gang-related activities.

Dating back to early summer, there have been a string of similar incidents in the Newhall area. Several of the crimes are being investigated for their suspected gang involvement.

Deputies responded to the Newhall area in the Old Orchard area near Avenida Rondel and Via Tanara around 10:31 p.m. Monday.

A teenager, a white male described as wearing red shirt, black pants and a hat supposedly shot into the ground and then pointed the gun at someone, and then ran off, according to the initial report.

Numerous Sheriff’s Station deputies responded. The suspect, a juvenile, was found by deputies and then taken into custody.

Fire officials noted an ambulance was dispatched at 10:41 p.m., but no one was transported as a result of injuries, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel.

The booking charge listed was assault with a deadly weapon, although the suspect’s name was not released because the person is under 18 years of age.

Deputies also confiscated a gun from suspected gang members on May 30 after deputies spotted them on patrol in the same area.

About a week later, deputies responded to a report of an aggravated assault “with a dangerous weapon” June 6, on the 22200 block of Park Street.

An assault with a deadly weapon involving a knife took place two weeks later near the intersection of Market Street and Railroad Avenue.

A gang-related July 6 confrontation in Newhall led to a shooting that same evening, in which, according to witnesses, retaliation was threatened during the incident.

Monday’s incident is being investigated by Detective Burrow of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station’s COBRA Team.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call 661-255-1121.

  1. Last time I checked Old Orchard 1 was the first master-planned community of VALENCIA…. but it’s cute that you put Newhall.
