Scott Allen Bird, 41, of Saugus, and Katherine Roberta Seegar, 34, of Canyon Country, were arrested Jan. 7 at 1:45 a.m. for petty theft of gasoline and possession of methamphetamine at the Valencia Industrial Center.
A resident who had heard about several gasoline thefts in the parking lot near his office on the 27800 block of Avenue Hopkins decided to stay up and see if he could catch the thieves in the act, officials said.
When the informant noticed the suspects allegedly making a late-night gas theft, the informant called deputies who arrived on scene and noticed the gas caps of three cars had been left open.
Deputies then saw a car with a hose coming out of the gas tank and into a red gas can, according to Sheriff’s Station arrest records. The gas can with a hose attached was nearly full.
In another car parked nearby, deputies found Seegar and Bird lying on the floor of the car in an apparent effort to avoid detection, officials said.
Deputies also reported finding methamphetamine in the car Seegar and Bird were in, according to the report.
Seegar had six meth-related convictions, according to online court records, as well as a burglary and grand theft conviction. Seegar has been convicted twice of identity theft and receiving stolen property.
Both suspects were cited out and released, according to Sheriff’s Department arrest records.
