Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a pair of probationers who were in possession of two different illegal narcotics and a deadly weapon during a traffic stop in Saugus Wednesday.

“When deputies were patrolling in Saugus on Wednesday afternoon, they ran the license plate of a vehicle that returned with a $35,000 warrant for narcotics that was issued for a male adult,” said Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

After further inspection by the deputies, they discovered that not only where the two men on active probation, but that they had illegal items in their car, according to officials.
“Within the vehicle, deputies located a ‘Billy Club,’ heroin and methamphetamine,” said Miller.
A “Billy Club” is a heavy wooden stick with a handle grip which is designed to be used as a weapon to strike an individual. The ownership of one is considered to be a violation of California Penal Code 22210PC, control of a deadly weapon, said officials.

“Deputies arrested Jeremy Simonds, 29 and Ryan Newman, age 36, on narcotic charges and for possession of a ‘Billy Club,”’ concluded Miller.
The traffic stop occurred on the 28400 block of Haskell Canyon Rd. in a shopping center parking lot, according to officials.
