Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Deputies Ramp Up Vehicle, Pedestrian Traffic Enforcement Thursday

The Santa Clarita Valley has seen several pedestrian versus vehicle collisions, some fatal, over the past couple months and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are looking to fix that.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has seen an increase in vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collisions which have resulted in numerous injuries and some deaths, according to a news release.

“We’re going to step it up,” said Deputy Kevin Duxbury. “We’re going to have deputies out watching some of the more problem intersections. They’re going to conduct traffic stops and pedestrians stops and write citations.”

Throughout the day on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies will be strongly enforcing vehicle code laws regarding vehicles failing to yield to pedestrians, as well as jaywalking, walking/ running in traffic and crossing streets against signals, according to a news release. Persons violating these laws with be issued a citation.

It is very important that drivers and pedestrians share our streets and look out for one another, according to a news release.

Vehicles need to always be aware of pedestrians, and pedestrians need to stay on the sidewalks and cross streets in a safe and legal manner, according to a news release.

  1. If an officer views the corner of Sierra Highway and North Rainbow Glen Dr., they won’t believe the activity that takes place on a daily basis. Motorists do not obey the red arrow, during evening commutes the red lights are ignored for the most part. It is a miracle school kids have not gotten killed. There is a no U-Turn sign that is 100% ignored and because it is a highway, cars come roaring downhill and uphill as well.

    Pedestrians on the other hand, ignore the do not walk signals, walk on the street instead of the sidewalk and overall just plain ignore the traffic. It is only a matter of time.
