The suspect, Edgar Alejandro Hernandez, 35, of Saugus, was arrested Friday for: one count of assault with a deadly weapon; second degree robbery and three counts of misdemeanor vandalism (under $400 worth of damage).

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested Hernandez after gas station patrons accused him of attacking two people and threatening another at the Chevron station on the 20500 block of Newhall Avenue, around 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Hernandez allegedly broke a man’s glasses, struck a man with a beer bottle and threatened another man who was getting gas.

“Early Friday morning, deputies responded to a call of a disturbance at a gas station,” said Shirley Miller, PIO for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Reportedly, the suspect had walked into the gas station and got into a verbal altercation with the employee,” said Miller, explaining that he had knocked over a food rack. “(Then), he allegedly grabbed the employee’s glasses off his face and slammed on the counter and they broke.”

The man proceeded to walk out of the shop with two bottles of beer, Miller said, and then hit another customer’s truck.

When the driver of the truck confronted the suspect, the vandal struck him in the leg with a beer bottle, Miller said.

Afterward, the attacker approached another man refueling his vehicle and grabbed a sweegie brush while yelling at the other man, according to the station’s report.

“The suspect raised it above his head,” said Miller, “and started calling the man different derogatory names.”

The man was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to Sheriff’s Department arrest records.
