At several points Friday, there was a line of supporters at the station, bearing cookies, flowers, baked goods and notes of support, according to Sheriff’s Station PIO Shirley Miller.

“I’m extremely appreciative of the outpouring of support and kindness from the community for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station,” said Capt. Roosevelt Johnson, “and for law enforcement in general.”

Miller tweeted out the following after a bouquet was delivered.SCV gifts

“Thank you to our community for the flowers, notes and food that have been dropped off at our station. #LASD #SCV

The support comes on the heels of a series of protests that were followed by an ambush of police officers in Dallas, Texas, according to a CNN report.

“The ambush began with gunshots that killed five officers and sent screaming crowds scrambling for cover. It ended when a Dallas police bomb squad robot killed a gunman after negotiations failed,” according to the report.

The dead suspect was identified as Micah Xavier Johnson, 25, of Mesquite, Texas. Police officers are still trying to determine whether there are other suspects, according to the same report.

Deputies are also aware of a local protest for #BlackLivesMatter, which is scheduled to take place at Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway Friday, July 8, at 6-8 p.m. in Valencia.

“They are aware of (the demonstration),” Miller said, “and they have an overall heightened sense of awareness of what’s going on.”

  1. It’s true that no profession is perfect. However cops go out every day not knowing if they will return home safe.

If there are officers who’ve acted too quickly they need to be dealt with. But to those who risk their lives daily for us, we appreciate your service.

Here’s hoping the various sides can come together and work out how to reduce shootings on either side and get everyone home safe.

  2. All lives matter

    • Shirley,

The statement “black lives matter” does not mean those living with lighter skin tones matter any less. It only means that your life, and mine, do not matter more.

  3. To let those people the right to protest in this town just shows how much disrespect the judges have for the people who protect them! After last night in Dallas, to let the same group protest here is not only stupid, but also dangerous! There is absolutely no reason to let a radical, terrorist group to come to Santa Clarita and protest a lie! I am very disappointed in whom ever allow this outrage to go on!

    • James, are you really a moron or just trolling?

Everyone has a right to peaceful assembly. What “judges” are you referring to that have disrespect for the people who protect them?

Do you really believe that the group of people that were protesting last night in Dallas jumped on an airplane and flew out to California to protest in SANTA CLARITA?!?!?! Let’s ignore the logistics of a group protesting in Dallas last night, followed by travelling to CA en masse – Not LA. Not San Francisco. Not San Diego. SANTA CLARITA!

What “radical, terrorist group” has come to Santa Clarita? Are you referring to the Santa Clarita residents that are minorities?? What “lie” are these RESIDENTS protesting, exactly?

Let’s just say I am very disappointed in whomever allows you to keep and use a working computer in your vicinity.

    • It’s their constitutional right to protest peacefully. To assume it will be violent based only on the actions of a gunman who was not part of the BLM movement is a sign of the pervasive white privelege problem in the SCV.

    • It is absolutely disgusting to have a group like this exist and be placed on a platform amplified by biased media outlets, celebrities, local government officials and even the worst POTUS in history. If people would, comply with officers commands when detained for criminal investigations and not reach for guns in their waistbands (Alton Sterling) there will be less “innocent” people shot.

    • FYI Micah Johnson, the shooter, had issues with the Black Lives Matter organization. So he wasn’t even part of that PEACEFUL demonstration. BLM is not a terrorist organization. God bless them and the men and women in BLUE because their lives matter too.

  4. I believe that unfortunately there will be more killing of officers as the frustration that people have with the government intruding in their daily lives and extorting (oops, I meant taxing) money from hard working people to give it away on programs that don’t work and also on overpriced services. The people may rise up against the government and the policing agencies will be on the front line.
If Obama is such a uniter then why after seven years + of him in office has there been such polarization throughout our country? Why do blacks blame the whites when they know that more blacks die at the hands of other blacks than at the hands of whites? So now the question: Do black lives matter? Answer: Black lives matter more to whites than they do to other blacks. Just look at the stats…

    • Why has there been such a polarization of our country under Obama? Because the racists have come out of the woodwork and the super conservative have decided that Obama is a Muslim, or a foreigner, or whatever ignorant perceived negative they can think of that day.

Just looks at the stats, Mark: more whites die at the hands of other whites. Does that mean the police should stop doing their jobs and start just murdering white people for selling CDs or reaching for their identification WHEN ASKED TO DO SO?

      • Nate,
Do you know that almost twice as many whites die in police shootings than blacks. Where is the outrage? Do you even care? Guys like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have made a lucrative business out of racism, have skewed the facts and the media just keeps eating it up and showering it on the public.

  5. @ James
“Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

In case you were unaware, it was a peaceful protest.

  6. Oh Mark, you keep opening that unintelligent mouth of yours. You always chime in and prove to the world just how ignorant you really are.

    • Johnny,
You need to make the case if you are going to profess ignorance on another. What part do you see right and what part do you see wrong with my comments and how do you back up your statements?

  7. A Judge is responsible for allowing this protest in Santa Clarita? If this is the case then we need to know his name so we have have him removed. Any decision that is made by people we pay for making decisions should have a name attached so we can track their actions and get those who make bad decisions removed. That should also include people in position that come up with stupid new tax laws and give away programs. We need to know who these people are so we can vote them out or find other ways to have them removed from their position.
