Every year the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station receives hundreds of calls for service regarding illegal riders, mainly in the Acton/Aqua Dulce area. Many of these riders are individuals who live in these communities. This is a very upsetting situation for the residents of the Acton/Aqua Dulce area because ATV riding in these two communities are prohibited. The land is either privately owned or owned by utility companies, therefore riding in these areas is illegal.L.A. Sheriff's Deputy, Valencia Resident Accused Of Punching Inmate

The Palmdale Sheriff’s Station has an off road team which is funded by a grant through the state and county Department of Parks and Recreation. These deputies are assigned to patrol these areas and look for illegal riders. Generally the team dedicates over 48 hours a month to the Acton/Aqua Dulce area and contacts between 10-20 people during their shift. If you are on an ATV and stopped, you will be cited for riding in non-designated area, pursuant to 15.68.020 of the Los Angeles County Code (LACC) – Off Road Vehicle Trespassing.

We are asking the public to please refrain from riding in non-designated riding areas. If you would like information on areas that have been designated in Southern California please visit the website.
