Sheriff’s Deputies Release Crime Reports, CHP To Host DUI Checkpoint

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have released the crime reports for the week of Dec. 29- Jan. 4.

Officials with the Coroner’s Office are investigating a suspected suicide at a home on the 26700 block of Iron Canyon Road, near Sand Canyon Road in Canyon Country, officials said Monday.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives are investigating a Castaic home invasion robbery on the 28400 block of Sloan Canyon Road, officials said Monday. A man accused in an allegedly violent Castaic home invasion pleaded not guilty at his preliminary arraignment Tuesday.

Crime Reports

KHTS publishes crime reports in alphabetical order by community as they are made available.

Here are the crime reports for Canyon Country West, Castaic/ Val Verde, Newhall, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch and Valencia.

Canyon Country West

A robbery occurred near the 26800 block of Sierra Highway.  The owner of a check cashing business parked his vehicle near the Sheriff's Department Crime Classification Given OK By County Inspectorabove location to make a purchase.  When he opened his vehicle door, he was met by the suspect who brandished a handgun.  The suspect demanded the victims handbag containing numerous checks.  The victim complied and gave the suspect the bag.  The suspect ran to a nearby vehicle and sped off onto Sierra Highway and out of view.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A residential burglary occurred near the 18500 block of Soledad Canyon Road.  Person(s) unknown pushed open the victims bedroom window of the residence and stole items from within.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A residential burglary occurred near the 26700 block of Isabella Parkway.  Person(s) unknown forced entry through the front door of the residence and stole numerous items from within.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A residential burglary occurred near the 19700 block of Azure Field Drive.  Person(s) unknown forced entry into the rear slider door and stole items from within.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A grand theft occurred near the 19800 block of Drasin Drive.  Person(s) unknown stole the victims backpack from his unlocked vehicle.  Inside the backpack was an expensive laptop computer.   This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A shoplift occurred near the near the 26400 block of Carl Boyer Drive.  One suspect was arrested for shoplifting after she was caught by the facilities Loss Prevention.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

Castaic/ Val Verde

A home invasion robbery was reported from the 28000 block of Sloan Canyon Road.  The victim answered his front door and was confronted by a man demanding money.  After the resident told him to leave the suspect forced his way in the front door and attacked the victim.  The victim and another resident were able to subdue the suspect and held him till deputies arrived.  The suspect was arrested.

A resident in the 27000 block of Iris Place reported her vehicle stolen by her ex-boyfriend after an argument.  The suspect returned the vehicle the day and was arrested by responding deputies.

A petty theft of Christmas lights was reported from the 32000 block of Sierra Oak Trail.  The homeowner reported the lights taken from his front yard between 2:45 and 5:00 pm on 1-4-15.

A petty theft was reported from the 31000 block of Castaic Road.  The victim reported her silver I-phone 5 taken from the front seat of her unlocked vehicle.

A petty theft of a Bud light beer was reported from the 30000 block of San Martinez Road.  The suspect expressed his anger for having to wait in a line to pay then walked out of the store without paying.

There were several thefts from vehicle’s reported from the 32000 block of Castaic Road.  Numerous trailer doors were pried open and it is unknown what items were stolen from each.

Newhall

Between Wednesday the 24th, and Monday the 29th, a business was burglarized in the 25000 block of Newhall Avenue.  The burglar entered through a window but nothing was taken or damaged.

Between Tuesday the 30th at 7:00 p.m., and Wednesday the 31st at 9:15 a.m., a vehicle was burglarized in the 24300 block of Walnut Street.  Clothing and electronics were stolen from the vehicle.

On Saturday the 3rd, between 6:00 a.m. and 10:50 a.m., a vehicle was burglarized near Newhall Avenue and the 14 Freeway.  Clothing, sunglasses, and a cell phone were stolen.

Between Friday the 12th, and Monday the 29th, three surveillance cameras were stolen from a business in the 24300 block of Newhall Avenue.

There were three DUI arrests and three arrests for domestic violence related charges last week in the Newhall area.

Start the New Year out right, remember to lock your doors and windows, don’t leave packages or valuables in plain view, be aware of your surroundings, and report suspicious behavior.

Saugus

A residential burglary was reported in the 22600 block of Crown Point Court between December 27th and December 31st.  The victim discovered his back window had been smashed and his personal items had been moved.  Detectives are working this case.

A second residential burglary was reported in the 26400 block of Woodstone Place on January 2nd.  The suspect attempted to gain entry into the victim’s residence after an argument over aggressive pan handling.  Deputies arrived on scene and arrested the suspect without incident.

Two vehicles were reported stolen over the past week.  The first was stolen in the 22800 block of Soledad Canyon Road on December 30th.  The victim stated his vehicle was stolen from in front of a business overnight.  The second vehicle stolen was reported in the 27600 block of Seco Canyon Road on January 2nd.  The victim stated his vehicle was stolen from his driveway overnight.  Deputies are searching for both vehicles.

An arson was reported in the 22400 block of Los Rogues Drive on January 4th.  The victim reported someone lit a fire on the side of his residence early in the morning.  Detectives are following up on incident.

There were two thefts from unlocked vehicles reported over the past week.  The first occurred in the 21200 block of Georgetown Drive in the early morning hours of December 28th.  The victim discovered numerous personal items had been stolen out of his unlocked vehicle.  The second theft occurred in the 21800 block of Brett Court in the early morning hours on December 29th.  Again, the victim discovered numerous items had been stolen out of his unlocked vehicle.

With there being two thefts from unlocked vehicles over the past week I would like to remind you to lock your vehicle when leaving it unattended.  Remember to take all items of value with you when leaving your vehicle.  If this is not a possibility then secure your items in the trunk or out of view.

Stevenson Ranch

An assault with a deadly weapon/ domestic assault incident occurred in the 25300 block of The Old Road. The suspect, a Lemon Grove resident, went to his ex-girlfriend’s residence. While in the carport area, the suspect struck the victim multiple times causing her to fall to the ground. The suspect then ran over the victim’s leg with his vehicle and fled. The suspect was arrested by responding deputies when he returned to the scene.

A commercial burglary incident occurred in the 26900 block of The Old Road. The suspect entered the business by prying open the rear security door. The suspect then stole five high end glasses from the display case.

Another commercial burglary occurred at the intersection of Potrero Canyon Road & Highway 126. Unknown suspect(s) entered the property stole two chain saws and a generator from inside storage containers.

A grand theft (automobile) occurred in the 24900 block of Constitution Avenue. The victim’s adult son took the victim’s 2001 Honda Civic without her consent.

A shoplifting (burglary) incident occurred in the 25400 block of The Old Road. The suspect entered the store, placed merchandise into a plastic storage container in her shopping cart, and left without paying for the items. The victim fled the location when confronted by loss prevention personnel. The case is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind when away from home for extended periods of time:

– Lock all doors and windows.

– Use timers so lights, radio, TV, go on and off throughout the house to indicate someone is home.

– Ask a neighbor or friend to collect your delivered mail and newspapers.

– Don’t leave a spare key under your doormat or in a nearby pot.

Valencia

A burglary occurred near the 24200 block of Valencia Boulevard.  Suspect unknown broke into the location and stole a TV off the wall along with a Sony Play Station and games which were secured inside a locked box.

A second burglary occurred near the 24900 block of Magic Mountain Parkway.  An unknown male entered the victim’s apartment while she was out for a walk.  When she returned home she saw the suspect standing inside her bedroom in his underwear. The suspect fled the location once the victim saw him standing in her room.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 24200 block of Valencia Boulevard.  Suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s vehicle and stole personal items from inside her car.  The car was left unlocked while parked in the parking lot.

A forgery occurred near the 24100 block of Magic Mountain Parkway.  A female Hispanic adult was arrested for petty theft, possession of a controlled substance, and forgery.  The suspect was arrested after failing to pay for concealed items she had in her possession while exiting the store.

A grand theft occurred near the 28500 block of Westinghouse Place.  Suspect(s) unknown entered a closed room at the location and pried open a stand-alone ATM machine. Stolen was $1760 (88 X 20’s) dollars from the ATM machine.

A second grand theft occurred near the 28100 block of Newhall Ranch Road.  The victim stated suspect unknown stole funds from his bank account.  This case is currently under active investigation.

A third grand theft occurred near the 24200 block of Valencia Boulevard.  A male black adult walked into the location and stole three Samsung items from the display case.  The suspect ran out of the store and got into a silver Rav 4 parked outside the location waiting for the suspect.

Over the past week we had eight incidents of shoplifting occur at our local businesses.  Three out of the eight incidents resulted in arrests by patrol deputies.  Each case is currently under active investigation by our Detective Bureau.  These crimes are taken seriously and will not be tolerated within the city.
