Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have these tips and information they want to make sure residents are aware of, based on Los Angeles County-wide trends and information being collected and analyzed by Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) deputies:

– Criminals are now more likely to wear high-end suits, drive high-end cars and do a better job of blending into the areas they are victimizing. In one recent case of burglaries investigated by deputies, the thieves drove around a nice residential neighborhood in a Porsche Cayenne.

– Gangs are ignoring traditional racial and territorial divides, working together more cooperatively to victimize communities. Even gangs that have traditionally fought for turf are now focusing their efforts on crime as opposed to fighting amongst themselves;

– Deputies are asking the general public to not be hesitant about being suspicious. Don’t be hesitant to think something is suspicious or the need to know what’s occurring in your neighborhood.  If you see a suspicious car, jotting down a license plate and/or taking a picture and expressing your concern to the Sheriff’s Station is something that could help us catch criminals and send a message that they’re not welcome in Santa Clarita.

It looks like we had a spike in crime in our area over this past week.  I want to make sure we all take the time to make ourselves hard targets and even tougher victims.   In your daily duties please take that extra minute or less to make sure you lock your car, lock your home, and hide all your valuables.  Taking the extra time in keeping yourself aware of your surroundings, and always on the lookout for potential problems will help you ensure your day goes as planned without any criminal ruining it.
