Sheriff’s On Assault In Newhall: Suspect Attacked Man With Pole

After an assault in Newhall Tuesday, a man from Palmdale is facing assault with a deadly weapon charges for allegedly attacking another man with a pole.

Cory Larry, 30, was one of two people detained after the incident near the Newhall Metrolink Station on Railroad Avenue, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials said.

“He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with great bodily injury,” said Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the station.

Larry and another person, described as his friend, reportedly got into an argument with the victim at approximately noon, Miller said.

“The suspect armed himself with a pole and struck the victim on the head,” she said. “The victim sustained a head injury that required medical care.”

Deputies detained Larry and the friend nearby, and arrested Larry.

Officials said the suspect and victim did not know each other. Witnesses at the time told KHTS one man involved was “screaming at people” for unknown reasons in the minutes leading up to the incident.

Larry’s bail was set at $30,000, and he is expected to make an appearance at the San Fernando Superior Court Thursday.
