A coroner Monday identified James Edson Gillis, 87, of Castaic, as the victim of a stabbing at 31963 Emerald Lane. Denise Ann Gillis was expected to be arraigned Tuesday on a murder charge connected to the stabbing death of her father, officials said.

On Aug. 5, 2011, Karla Brada bailed her fiance, Eric Earle, out of jail. Less than a month later, she was found dead in the home the couple shared, asphyxiated and covered in bruises. Eight men and four women began to hear testimony Monday in the murder trial of Eric Allen Earle, 43, who’s accused of killing Karla Brada.

The news of former NFL player Ray Rice attacking his wife on video has prompted a nationwide discussion about domestic violence, which is an issue everywhere, according to a Santa Clarita Valley expert.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded early Wednesday morning to a report of a home invasion in Santa Clarita, where a couple was left in handcuffs after their home was ransacked. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives are investigating a second home invasion robbery in two days, officials said Thursday night.

Canyon Country East

Sheriff's Release Crime Reports, Court Cases, Murder In Santa ClaritaA child assault occurred on Golden Valley Road. The suspect was seen striking a five year old boy numerous times by a citizen while driving on Golden Valley Road. The citizen immediately called Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department and followed the vehicle. A short time later the suspect was detained and arrested for child abuse. The victim was taken into protective custody. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A commercial burglary occurred near the 20700 block of Soledad Canyon Road. Deputies responded to a burglary alarm call and immediately detained two male adults at the scene. After a short investigation, deputies arrested the two suspects for burglary for having store property in their possession. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 20400 block of Soledad Canyon Road. Person(s) unknown forced entry into the victim’s vehicle and stole his wallet from within. . This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A grand theft occurred near Rainbow Glen Drive and Flo Lane. Person(s) unknown cut the catalytic converter from the victims vehicle. . This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

Canyon Country West

An assault with a deadly weapon occurred near the 18000 block of Sierra Highway.  The suspect and victim got into a physical altercation.  During the altercation, another person attempted to intervene and the suspect brandished a knife.  Deputies responded and arrested the suspect at the scene.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives. 

A grand theft auto occurred near the 19300 block of Santa Maria Drive.  The victims vehicle was taken from the front of the location.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives.

A grand theft auto occurred near the 19100 block of Pleasentdale Street.  The victims vehicle was taken from the front of the location.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives. 

A petty theft occurred near the 18500 block of Soledad Canyon Road.  A deputy conducted a traffic stop for various traffic violations.  During is traffic stop he observed scrap metal inside the vehicle to which he conducted an investigation.  The two suspects were subsequently arrested for theft of the scrap metal.  This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives. 

Castaic/ Val Verde

A vehicle theft was reported from the 31000 block of Ridge Route Road. A 1996 black 2 door Honda Accord was stolen.

On Monday the 25th, multiple homes in Castaic were burglarized. Two residences in the 32000 block of Sierra Oaks Trail, a residence in the 27000 block of Mariposa Lane and a residence in the 28000 Sheriff's Release Crime Reports, Court Cases, Murder In Santa Claritablock of Branch Road were all broken into. In each burglary, the suspects gained entry into the homes through rear sliding doors or windows. The suspects ransacked the homes targeting jewelry, cash, electronics and miscellaneous valuable items. While the suspects were inside one of the homes, the resident returned. The victim saw 1 male adults inside their home and heard a second up stairs. The suspects ran out of the house and past the victim and got into a Porsche Cheyenne which was waiting out front. The victim was able to get the plate of the vehicle. A Sheriff’s department special team and station detectives later arrested multiple male adults in the same vehicle in Irvine in the commission of a residential burglary.

Newhall

On Sunday the 31st, at 9:00 p.m., a 44 year old male and his 19 year old son were arrested in the 23700 block of Valle Del Oro after they assaulted a 39 year old male in his residence.

On Wednesday the 27th, at 5:57 p.m., a 33 year old known gang member was arrested after he assaulted a 28 year old man near Main Street and 9th Street during an argument.

On Wednesday the 27th, between 2:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m., a laptop was stolen from an attached garage in the 24700 block of Apple Street. The suspect entered the garage through an unlocked sliding door.

Between Sunday the 24th at 10:30 p.m., and Monday the 25th at 7:00 a.m., a remote ignition was stolen from a vehicle parked inside an attached garage in the 24200 block of La Glorita Circle. The garage was closed and there was no sign of forced entry.

On Friday the 29th, at 9:50 p.m., a white male, 20-25 years old, was seen on video surveillance entering the unlocked back door of a business in the 24100 block of Lyons Avenue and stole an employee’s backpack. A white female, 20-25 years old, was also seen in the video with the suspect.

Between Friday the 22nd at 2:30 p.m., and Monday the 25th at 9:30 a.m., an office was burglarized in the 25000 block of Peachland Avenue. The suspect pried open the door and stole electronics.

Between Monday the 25th at 6:00 p.m., and Tuesday the 26th at 6:40 a.m., a Newhall school building was burglarized and vandalized near Newhall Avenue and 13th Street. Stolen from the building were hand puppets of an elephant, lion, bear, and owl. While the suspects were in the school, they poured paint on the walls, floor, and furniture.

On Monday the 25th, between 5:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. a vehicle was burglarized in the 24600 block of Valley Street. A window was shattered to get into the vehicle. A laptop and a black leather purse were stolen.

Between Thursday the 28th at 10:00 p.m., and Friday the 29th at 8:00 a.m., several personal items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 23700 block of La Salle Canyon Road.

Sheriff's Release Crime Reports, Court Cases, Murder In Santa ClaritaOn Tuesday the 26th, at 3:36 p.m., a 44 year old male was arrested for shoplifting in the 23400 block of Lyons Avenue. The stolen property was recovered at the location. The suspect was later sentenced to 20 days in jail for the theft in Newhall Court.

Saugus

There was a residential burglary in the 27200 block of Seco Canyon Road on September 2nd. The victim had multiple electrical items stolen from her residence during the day time hours. It is unknown how entry was made into the residence. Santa Clarita Detectives are looking into the incident.

A vehicle was reported stolen in the 22900 Oakridge Drive on September 3rd. The victim discovered his Scion was stolen from the location overnight. The vehicle was recovered the following day just a short distance away.

We had a grand theft reported in the 29500 block of Hacienda Drive on September 1st. The victim took off her ring to make dinner during a party at her residence. She was unable to locate her ring when she was done making dinner. It is unknown who stole the ring.

Two thefts from unlocked vehicles were reported over the last week. The first occurred in the 26500 block of Bouquet Canyon Road on September 1st. Two males were seen stealing lawn mowing equipment from the bed of the victim’s truck. Detectives are working on leads to this incident. The second theft from unlocked vehicle occurred in the 29000 block of High Sierra Trail on September 5th. The victim awoke to discover that someone had stolen miscellaneous items from his unlocked vehicle.

Stevenson Ranch

A residential burglary occurred near the 25500 block of Huxley Avenue. An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence and took several miscellaneous personal items. It was believed at the time of the report that the suspect may possibly be an acquaintance of the victim.

A shoplift/burglary occurred near the 24900 block of Pico Canyon Road. Three male black suspects, approximately 18-20 years old, wearing flat-billed hats, entered the location and took several cellphones and tablets from display counters. The suspects fled the location in a silver Chevrolet Malibu. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station detectives.

A shoplift/burglary occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A male and female Hispanic suspect were detained by loss prevention personnel after exiting the location, failing to pay for several items they concealed in bags and on their person. The suspects were arrested by responding deputies.

A petty theft/shoplift occurred near the 25800 block of The Old Road. A male white suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel after exiting the location, failing to pay for alcohol. The suspect was cited and released at the scene.

A shoplift/burglary occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A white male suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel after he ripped security tags off of clothing items and exited the location, wearing the items. The suspect was arrested by responding deputies.

A petty theft/shoplift occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. A male Hispanic suspect exited the location, failing to pay for an electric razor. The suspect fled the location in a tan Toyota Camry.

Valencia

An assault with a deadly weapon occurred near the intersection on Magic Mountain Parkway and Town Center Drive.   A male adult was contacted at the location off a disturbance call to the complex for a noise compliant.  The responding deputies were unable to gather much information from the victim because he was very intoxicated.  The deputies saw visible injuries on the victim and he was bleeding from the head and face area.  After a brief time, the deputies were able to obtain the victim had been drinking and involved in an altercation with another male adult.  A witness was able to provide information about the victim being jumped by two or more male adults. No suspects have been arrested from this incident.    

A burglary occurred near the 27200 block of Tourney Road.  An unknown suspect attempted to pry open the back door to the location.  The suspect was not successful and fled the location without making entry into the location.  No suspect information is available at this time.   

A burglary occurred near the 25900 block of Tournament Drive.  An unknown suspect(s) entered the community gym, which was left unlocked, and open for regular business hours.  The suspect(s) removed a 46” flat screen TV.  No one witnessed the thefts, but two males were in the gym prior to the theft taking place.   

An attempted burglary occurred near the 25500 block of Fedala Road.  Two male suspects cut holes in the fence to try and gain access to the location.  The suspects fled the location when the informant woke up due to the noise outside, which was created by the suspects.  The suspects tried to steal numerous construction items from the location but were scared off when the informant stepped out.  The suspects were unable to remove anything from the location.   

We had two suspects arrested for shoplifting at our local businesses this past week. 

An attempted vehicle theft occurred from the 27500 block of Wayne Mills Place.  The victim was sleeping in his vehicle which was parked in the parking lot of the location.  The victim was awoken when he heard someone trying to enter his vehicle from punching the door lock.  Once the victim woke up he scared the suspect off without getting a good description.   

An attempted vehicle burglary occurred near the 23800 block of Spinnaker Court.  The suspect was seen by the witness trying to open numerous door handles to vehicles in the area.   The suspect fled the area prior to the deputies arrival.  Once the deputies were at the location, the witness saw the suspect walking back towards the area.  The deputies detained the suspect, and ultimately arrested him for attempt vehicle burglary.  

One particular crime that continues to plague our zone is vehicle burglaries.  This continues to be a problem across the board and I want to make everyone aware of this.  Please take the extra time to hide your valuable and make sure your doors and windows to your home and car remain locked.
