Los Angeles County Fire Department’s investigators handed the case over to the Sheriff’s Department’s Arson and Explosives Team, which is now leading the look into what happened.

No official cause has been determined, yet.

Fire Investigator Russ Koshimizu made a determination the fire was not caused by natural causes; however Arson and Explosive investigators reached Monday said there has not yet been any sort of foul play or criminal intent found. Investigators speculated Monday the fire appeared to be “accidental.”

Stevenson Ranch residents of the Parc Chateaux apartments on Constitution Avenue are still seeing and accepting donations to help them rebuild.

Dozens were displaced by flames that started on the balcony of an apartment unit  around 1 a.m. Friday, September 1, and quickly engulfed the surrounding apartment units.

When firefighters arrived Friday in the middle of the night, a balcony was “fully engulfed,” according to officials. It quickly spread to the attic and the surrounding structures were threatened, officials said. Ultimately, the fire was contained to one building.

Apartment officials are accepting donations at the apartment complex’ leasing office on behalf of residents. The office is open from Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Toys, food, clothes and gift cards are all encouraged, according to Josh Premako, a Parc Chateaux resident who is looking to help his neighbors rebuild.

The neighborhood school, Pico Canyon Elementary, had two students’ families and a teacher at least temporarily displaced by the apartment blaze, according to Newhall School District officials.

A GoFundMe page was created to support one of the families who are affected by this fire.

The page notes the following:

“On September 1, 2017, while everyone was sleeping, a huge fire broke out about 1 a.m. on the third floor at the Parc Chateaux Apartment Homes in Stevenson Ranch, California.  20 units where deemed inhabitable, and everything inside these homes were destroyed.

Alice’s family was one of the families severely affected by this fire. Her family lost everything…all they have is her phone. They don’t even have a change of clothes for tomorrow.”
