UPDATE: A short pursuit in Canyon Country ended in a crash on Soledad Canyon Road Thursday, as Sheriff’s deputies attempted to apprehend a suspect who allegedly stole a vehicle. The suspect is now in custody.

Update 5:40 p.m. — Deputies have one in-custody regarding this incident and will be reopening Soledad Canyon Road’s westbound lanes shortly around Commuter Way, according to officials at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station.

Traffic had been heavily affected in the area for approximately three hours on Thursday, with Sheriff’s closing down the entire eastbound side of Soledad Canyon Road as they searched for the suspect and cleaned up the accident.

Original Story — “Deputies went into pursuit of a stolen vehicle that began as a carjacking in LAPD west district,” said Lt. Bauer, Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station.

The driver crashed into multiple parked cars, then fled on foot, leading to containment near Soledad Canyon Road and Golden Oak Road in Canyon Country,

“We are searching for the suspect in Greenbrier West community,” said Bauer. “The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.”

Traffic was greatly impacted throughout the afternoon on Soledad Canyon Road due to the crash.

This was the second suspect to flee from Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station on Thursday.

During the first incident, Santa Clarita Sheriff’s deputies set up a containment in Canyon Country Thursday morning after a known suspect fled from officers on foot.

That suspect was arrested soon after.
