The driver of a Corvette that allegedly threw a handgun from the vehicle during a high-speed pursuit through Santa Clarita was arrested by California Highway Patrol officers Tuesday night, according to a news release provided by CHP officials.

Officers observed the driver, Miguel Angel Jiminez Jr., 21 of Sylmar, allegedly traveling at speeds of over 100 mph on Highway 14 south of Soledad Canyon Road around 10 p.m. and tried to overtake the vehicle.
Jiminez allegedly attempted to evade the officers in pursuit, and exited the the freeway onto Sierra Highway.
Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the corvette throw a handgun out of the vehicle after recklessly traveling down Sierra Highway, allegedly running multiple red lights at speeds of 90 mph, according to the news release.
The weapon was recovered by CHP, according to the news release.
The chase eventually reached the San Fernando Valley, where Jiminez allegedly exited the car while it was still moving, leaving the corvette to collide into two parked cars, according to the report.
With the assistance of an LAPD helicopter, CHP officers were able to locate and arrest the suspected driver, who was booked at Twin Towers in downtown Los Angeles.
Jiminez was arrested at 10:22 p.m. and charged with a felony of evading officers, according to the arrest report.
