The unidentified man was found deceased at 2:30 a.m. Thursday from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Deputy Kelvin Moody with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Information Bureau.

When there was no communication with the suspect for a long period of time, deputies with the Special Enforcement Bureau made entry into the shed and found a deceased male adult inside, according to a news release.

The identity of the man will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The suspect previously stated he was armed, said Shirley Miller, public information officer with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, adding that he was uncooperative.

The man barricaded himself in a shed in the 19600 block of Babington Street in Canyon Country.

Surrounding homes in the area were evacuated for the safety of the residents, according to a news release issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect stated he was suicidal to deputies who made contact with him in the shed, Miller said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Crisis Negotiations Team made numerous attempts to bring about a peaceful resolution.

It is unknown if the suspect in the shed is Corey Kieffer, said Sgt. Brian Allen with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Kieffer ran through the Santa Clara wash, away from deputies, after being spotted near the intersection of Langside Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road, adjacent from a liquor store, earlier Wednesday afternoon, said Allen.

Shortly after the incident, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station then received multiple reports from residents claiming they saw an individual matching the Kieffer’s description run through their yard in the Canyon Country area, Allen said.

No further details are available at this time. KHTS will continue to update as more information becomes available.

  1. I live on Babington, I appreciated being updated as to what was going on with the barricaded suspect yesterday, by KHTZ

  2. Why were the police chasing this man to begin with?

    • He was being chased by the sheriff’s so they could serve a non-violent warrant. He told them he was going to kill him self. I was not allowed to speak to him, I was there the whole time! I’m his mother. It was an absolutely ridiculous situation. You would have thought there was a hostage situation going on with the amount of law enforcement there. I also would like for it to be known that my son NEVER shot out of that shed, EVER. That has been confirmed to me by the Sergeant on scene! He was troubled for sure, but our society incarcerates the troubled rather than rehabilitates. We need changes. Myself and his 5 children are shattered beyond words. I don’t believe that we (I) especially will ever recover from the loss of my son. I know that some people will sit in judgement and for that I only wished that the world would have known his precious loving, giving, caring soul. There are days I’m not sure whether I can carry on. Thank god for his children. (ages 3-14) …….Thank you for listening.
