Nicholas Ryan Hernandez, 19, was under the influence when he attempted to break into the home of an off-duty deputy at 5:05 a.m. — leading to an altercation, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station officials.
“The homeowner confronted the suspect, this led to an altercation,” said Lt. Ignacio Somoano of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Hernandez then fled on foot, attempting to hide in several Stevenson Ranch backyards, said Sheriff’s officials.
At about 7 a.m., L.A. County Sheriff’s dispatched a helicopter to assist in the search for the at-large suspect.
“Shortly after the helicopter was dispatched, deputies located and apprehended the suspect,” said Lt. Somoano.
Hernandez is being charged with residential burglary, public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Jailer.
Hernandez is still being processed by officials, bail has not been set as of Monday morning.
