The chase started around 4:30 a.m. in the San Fernando Valley, after LAPD officials noticed a suspected DUI driver was weaving in and out of lanes, said Officer Ryan Bejar, public information officer.

“CHP took over from LAPD about 20 minutes after the pursuit was initiated near Valencia,” said Bejar.

The suspect drove over 100 miles through the Grapevine and was “spiked” near Fort Tejon, according to officials.

The alleged DUI driver was apprehended in the Buttonwillow CHP division near Highway 43 on the Northbound 5 in Bakersfield, said Officer Robert Rodriguez.

The driver refused to pull over. Once the car came to a stop, officers used a K9 to prevent the driver from fleeing on foot, officials said.

The incident is still under investigation, more information will be added as it becomes available.
