At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a deputy spotted what appeared to be a stolen vehicle parked at a restaurant on the 23300 block of Newhall Avenue.

He then made contact with the three vehicle occupants, one man and two women, and was able to ascertain that it was an embezzled vehicle.

“Home Depot trucks have decals, and they tried to hide that fact with tape,” said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies then searched the vehicle and found that not only was the vehicle not theirs, but also much of the contents inside the Home Depot truck were not theirs as well.

“What was interesting was that inside the vehicle there was over a dozen debit and credit cards that did not belong to them, in addition to a couple other things,” said Miller.

After a quick on-scene investigation, deputies determined that the Home Depot truck was already reported missing, but to the LASD station in Carson.

“They were out-of-towners who thought they were so far out of Los Angeles that they would be fine,” said Miller. “They had no idea that they would get caught being in this area, but our deputy saw something that was not right and recovered the vehicle.”

Suspects David Murphy, 22, Bernadette Morales, 30, and Reanna Gomez, 22, were all booked on felony level charges.

Murphy received a felony level charge of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, as well as a misdemeanor charge of misappropriation of lost property. He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Morales and Gomez were both booked on one felony count each of acquiring access cards. Gomez also had a warrant out for her arrest. They are both being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

  1. Bunch of dumb asses. Let’s get them into protected custody, from themselves.

  2. Is there a reason all three were not charged with the same crime(s)?
