On Friday, Michael Petett, 36, returned to court to face three charges, including one count of stalking and two felony counts of criminal threats, according to officials at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

“The preliminary hearing setting for Michael Petett was continued to June 20, 2018,” said Paul Eakins, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Petett allegedly made threats to both his wife and Castaic Elementary School in February, the details of which have not been disclosed by district officials.

“We found out (on Feb. 12) that he had made a threat that included potentially coming down and being a threat at the school,” said Castaic Union School District Superintendent Steve Doyle, in a statement released after the incident came to light. “We immediately alerted law enforcement.”

District officials said after they had ensured the safety of those at the school and had relayed all the information they could to detectives, they contacted the parents of the students.

“When we first heard, we had hired a private security company to come down and assess the situation,” said Doyle. “We’re not going to take that risk.”

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested Petett on Feb. 10, according to arrest records.

“Deputies received information regarding several criminal threats that had been made against an employee, a female adult, at the Castaic Unified School District, by her estranged spouse,” said Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the station.

The threats were left on the victim’s voicemail at her work location, Sheriff’s officials said.

“Deputies acted quickly, and were able to locate and arrest the 34-year-old suspect approximately one hour after the initial report was made, and take him into custody, where he still remains,” Miler said.

On February 15, Pettet entered a plea of not guilty on all counts. He is currently being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
