Eddie Camargo, 20, of Saugus, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs.

Blake Cook, 18, a high school senior from Saugus, was killed Saturday morning at 4:20 a.m., after the Honda Accord that Camargo was allegedly driving crashed into a big rig as it traveled northbound on Interstate 5, near Tuxford Street in Sylmar.

A second big rig, which also was not identified in a CHP report, struck and killed Cook while he was exiting the Accord on foot.

Cook was a senior at Valencia High, but he transferred out of the Hart district in January, according to William S. Hart Union High School District records.

Cook attended Saugus High School, Canyon High School and Opportunities For Learning before attending Valencia. He previously attended Arroyo Seco Junior High School and Rio Norte Junior High School. Camargo was a 2012 Saugus High grad.

The driver of this second big rig is being sought by CHP officials, according to Officer Posada of the California Highway Patrol.

Camargo, who drove a 2000 Honda Accord Coup, according to CHP report, crashed into a big rig, resulting in his car blocking the No.1 and No. 2 lanes.

“There were four vehicles involved,” said Officer Posada of the California Highway Patrol, explaining the investigation was still in the preliminary stage, and officers are still trying to find information about the driver of a big rig that fled the scene. “The semi that struck the pedestrian fled the scene.”

Cook’s friends are arranging a 7 p.m. vigil Saturday at Central Park in Saugus.

After the collision, the occupants of the Accord, including the driver, Cook, who was 18, and a 19-year-old passenger, all men, exited the car and attempted to run out of the roadway, according to the report.

A 1997 Toyota Corolla driven by a 27-year-old Palmdale man was driving north on I-5 crashed into the Accord, which was blocking two lanes of the freeway.

CHP officers did not note whether the occupants of the Accord were in the vehicle when it was struck by the Corolla.Saugus man accused of causing crash that preceded fatal hit and run

Camargo, who was arrested for an alleged DUI, did not sustain any injuries, and the other 19-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries, according to CHP reports.

The driver of the Corolla sustained moderate injuries.

Lt. David Smith of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the deceased Saturday morning.

Officer Posada of the California Highway Patrol said officials are still looking for information about the crash, and asking anyone who might have seen anything to call the Altadena CHP office at 626-296-8100.
