The last major portion of the 10-year long Cross Valley Connector road project – the one that finally connects Golden Valley, Bouquet Canyon, and Newhall Ranch Roads – will open with much fanfare Saturday, March 27.
Once completed, the 8 ½ mile stretch of road will link the I-5 and SR 14. The only remaining construction is to widen the bridge on Golden Valley Road over SR 14. The bridge over the Santa Clarita River has been under construction since January 2009.
On Thursday, March 18 the city will host a quick “hard hat tour,” a walking tour of the 1,100 ft bridge at 4 p.m. for community members who can not attend the main event on March 27. The ribbon cutting will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27 and will include the Mayor and City Council members. Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon and Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich are also expected to attend.
The Saturday event will also feature Tank, the skateboarding dog, and the Wells Fargo stagecoach. Rattler’s will also be doing a BBQ lunch. If you would like to attend either of these events, RSVP by visiting www.santa-clarita.com/connector.
