Cross Valley Connector: Open For Business

crossvalleyopen05With the first major business day after the opening of the Cross Valley Connector behind us, it seems as though the master plan for the City is taking a big step forward.

The final piece to the bridge connecting Newhall Ranch Road and Golden Valley Road was in place, and on Saturday March 27, more than 300 people turned out for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Representatives from the Tataviam Indian Tribe blessed the bridge to start the ceremony off.

The Wells Fargo Stage coach was the first to cross the 1,100 ft bridge, followed by more than 20 classic cars from various car clubs in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Dignitaries for the City and other agencies hitched a ride in the cars while Mayor Laurene Weste and the winners of the Cross Valley Connector contest rode on the stage coach.

The Cross Valley Connector, though it may seem complete, still has one large project scheduled before the “done” stamp can be placed on it.

The Golden Valley Bridge, which crosses the 14 Freeway is next in line for changes.

The City plans on changing the current two-lane bridge into a six-lane roadway, and make improvements to 1.9 miles of Golden Valley Road from Centre Pointe Parkway to Sierra Highway.
