Crossbow Killer Sentenced To 64 To Life

khts_crime_genericThe Lancaster man convicted of the March 2008 crossbow murder of a retired Edwards Air Force Base employee was sentenced today to 64 years to life in prison.

Judge Hayden Zacky pronounced sentence against Arsellers  Curtis Scott, 39, said Deputy District Attorney Ryan Williams.

A jury in June found Scott guilty of the first-degree murder of Angel Martinez on March 11, 2008. Scott also was convicted of felony vandalism and dissuading a witness in a separate case that was combined with the murder case for trial.

Williams said Scott wanted to make a point to his step-daughter that he was someone not to be messed with. So he took his crossbow and randomly attacked 62-year-old Martinez, who had gone for a late-night walk because he was having trouble sleeping. Martinez was found dead with an arrow in his chest in the middle of 13th Street East and Avenue K in Lancaster.

The case remained unsolved for several months until Sheriff’s detectives determined that Scott, who was later arrested on robbery and assault charges, was the suspect in the Martinez murder.
