Instead of light sabers, competing bakeries will frost it out with spatulas and frosting bags.

You say you’re fond of fondant? Then this will be the event for you.

The competition will take place at 5:00 p.m. in Old Town Newhall during the Farmers Market.  (You just know someone will get creamed!)

The bakeries participating are Cup My Cakez, Carmela Louise Cafe and Victorian Tea Time, The Cupcake Tree and Lady Di’s Cookies.  (Sorry, Wookie’s Wonders and Vader’s Tiny Treats will not be competing.)

Cupcakes will be judged on taste, originality and presentation.

The winning cupcake will be the featured as the “Taste of Santa Clarita” at the Amgen Tour of California VIP tent on May 22.  The City of Santa Clarita is serving as the Final Stage Start for this year’s race.

“Some of the best bakeries in Southern California are here in Santa Clarita and the Cupcake Wars is a great way to showcase the talents of our local businesses,” said Mayor Marsha McLean, who will serve as one of the judges for the competition.

Mayor Pro-Tem Laurie Ender will serve has the event’s emcee.

The competing bakeries will also sell their baked goods as part of the weekly Farmers Market which runs from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

They’ll be so delicious you’ll want more than Obi-one. Know what we mean Kenobi?

The Farmers Market takes place on Main Street in Old Town Newhall.
