The annual “Dancing With Our Stars” charity event, held Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City, raised more than $196,000 for 21 Santa Clarita Valley charities.
Chaired by Linda Hafizi, Anna Ott and Candy Spahr, the event gave each charity an opportunity to raise money around an elegant event. Dancers were encouraged to solicit contributions prior to the event that would give them a “leg up” on the other dancers.
In addition to the fundraising being a smashing success, the performance was deemed “amazing” by many of those in attendance. Local dancers were paired with an instructor to learn a dance and perform in front of a sold-out audience of 600 supporters.
While specific dollar numbers are not in yet, the evening was definitely worth celebrating.
For the second year in a row, The Senior Center Foundation was the recipient of the most money raised award. Alex Hafizi and his partner Riley Bennett not only danced their socks off, but were awarded the trophy for their fundraising efforts, which garnered the Senior Center nearly $40,000.
Best female dancer was Janine Jones, who danced for the Betty Ferguson Foundation; best male dancer was Stephen Tako, who danced for the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles.
