David Ewart To Move To New Home

Here’s the latest weekly update on the Ewart Family. In the early morning on Tuesday, December 20th, fire destroyed their Valencia home. Six family members were in the house at the time, three were seriously injured and sent to the Grossman Burn Center.  David and Michael Ewart were in the most serious condition. David was the final family member to be released from the Grossman Burn Center, weeks after the fire. Since the fire, our Valley has jumped in to assist as the Ewart’s recover.  This is the latest update courtesy of neighbors, Josy and Steve Block.

David has been searching for a rental home in close proximity to his kids.  Although he has appreciated living with his brother in Saugus, he just wasn’t able to spend enough time with Michael, Jonathan and Heather.  He was missing them tremendously, and realized this was something that had to be "fixed" – it was making him a little cranky.  He spoke with his insurance company, and learned that a rental home is covered under his policy.   They found a lovely house in the Valencia area, near Orchard Village street.  He will be able to live in this house until his home is rebuilt.

Additionally, the Insurance Company works with a rental facility that provides all the "necessities" on a rental basis.  Everything from dishes, to toasters, irons, everyday appliances, etc., are covered.  The kids went with David to the rental facility to pick out the necessary items.  Of course if the kids had their druthers, they’d have picked out the bright red sofa, loveseat, big screen TV, etc.  Fortunately, David had "veto" power, so they will not be decorating their house in "All American Kid Style".  LOL.

David is planning to move in to his rental house on THURSDAY, April 6th!!

The rental facility will be delivering the furniture & other items and will set everything up for David.  He will need some assistance as follows:

ASSISTANCE NEEDED…

* On Thursday (4/6), we will need someone (or a few people) with a large truck capable of moving some furniture items (such as a sectional couch) from his garage(burned down home) to the rental home and/or storage unit in Castaic.  We will also need to move some of the furniture from the storage facility to the rental home.  If you can help in this area, please send me an email – please let us know what your availability is like on Thursday.

*  Does anyone have a laptop computer that they have been considering getting rid of?  David would love to have a laptop for Jonathan.  Just prior to the fire, he had bought Jonathan a Sony Vaio laptop, which of course was destroyed in the fire.  He is hoping that maybe someone on this list is getting ready to upgrade and will no longer need an older laptop that they might possess.  Please let us know if you or anyone you know could help with this.

*  Does anyone have a cheap DVD player?  They are hoping for one to connect to the donated TV they’ll be using.

*  This is not an immediate need, but a "nice to have"…the rental home lacks flowers in the front, and since this is the time to plant, David is hoping to "pretty-it-up".  He is more than happy to do the work himself, but was wondering if anyone could help provide bedding plants / mulch at a reduced price?

We hope you’ll join us in wishing David and his family a happy and healthy transition into "normalcy".  As time goes on, we may discover more "needs" and we are grateful to those in this community (and beyond) who have been so generous in helping the Ewarts get back on their feet.
