Deputies Help U.S. Marshals Catch Fugitive From Texas

A fugitive was arrested in a Walmart parking lot Thursday, after Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies detained a man wanted by U.S. Marshals for a $12,000 warrant from Texas.

“Deputies were looking for a suspect in a van at the Walmart in Stevenson Ranch,” said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Sheriff’s Station.

”They detained the guy and a van with a trailer behind it,” Hershey said. “It was reported stolen (to the Los Angeles Police Department).”

Deputies discovered a 7-year-old boy believed to be related to the suspect in the van, he said.

“He’s probably going to be charged with a stolen trailer, also,” he said.

There appeared to be nothing wrong with the child, who was taken into protective custody.

A call to U.S. Marshals regarding the reason for the initial warrant was not immediately returned Thursday.

He’s currently being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Local authorities are not allowed to release the identity of the suspect because the investigation is being handled by the U.S. Marshals, according to a Sheriff’s Station official.
