Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies are hosting their annual Summer Showdown BBQ Competition on June 21, officials said Friday.

The competition is set to take place at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center located on 26983 Tapia Canyon Road in Castaic.
The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and entering the event is free, but $10 taste cards are available for purchase at the gate to try the food prepared by the contestants.
The proceeds raised go toward the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s program 999 For Kids.
The 999 For Kids program was created through a joint effort by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the County’s Department of Children and Family Services to help physically and mentally challenged children who are medically vulnerable or are victims of the most severe cases of child abuse, neglect and family violence.
A total of 19 units are competing in the showdown and each are to present two to three items for tasting. The third annual event also features children’s games, a BBQ booth, vendors and live music.
