The caller reported seeing two women and a van near the corner of 50th Street West and Avenue K. One woman was holding an alligator in her arms, and the caller feared that she would abandon it in the desert, according to the Sheriff’s Department Nixle report.
A traffic stop on Avenue D near 160th Street West revealed that the women were part of the Conservation Ambassadors program in Paso Robles.
They had just finished a presentation at Quartz Hill Elementary School and were on their way back to Paso Robles when the alligator made a mess in its cage. The women had stopped to clean the cage when the 9-1-1 caller saw them.
There was also a kangaroo in the van. After talking to deputies, the women continued on their way without incident.
