Deputies Release Weekly Santa Clarita Valley Crime Reports 6/10 to 6/16

Rick Allen Walker, of Canyon Country, was arrested and charged with wrong-way driving on the northbound Highway 14 during Monday rush-hour traffic, causing a collision that injured 11 people. Walker pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Deputies arrested registered sex offender Yale Yurman, Wednesday, on charges that he was filming children without their knowledge in public places.

Jared Foster of Castaic was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly killed his family’s cat and dog with a homemade spear.

Arthur Edward Lindsey of Acton will stand trial for four counts of rape, a judge decided Thursday.

An active shooter drill involving deputies and Hart District teachers and students, was staged at Arroyo Seco Junior High on Thursday.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrests four drivers and impounded five cars at a Valencia DUI/driver’s license checkpoint at Newhall Ranch Road and Grandview Drive Thursday night.

Here’s a summary of incidents that took place in the last week in Santa Clarita:

Canyon Country east

This week in Canyon Country-East we had 7 Part-1 crimes. Of those reported crimes, there was 1 assault, 1 robbery, 1 burglary, 4 vehicle burglaries.

An assault occurred from the 14900 block of Begonias Lane on June 10 at 10:00 pm. The victim was hit several times on the head with a metal pipe. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The investigation is ongoing.

A robbery occurred from the Vons store. The suspect fought with loss prevention officers after attempting to steal several food items. The suspect was arrested.

A garage burglary occurred in the 27400 block of Anthony Lane. Personal property was stolen from the victim’s open garage.

Vehicle burglaries occurred from the following locations: Two occurred on Jakes Way and the 14 freeway on June 12 between 12:00 am and 7:30 am; The 27300 block of Evi Lane on June 12 at 2:45 am; On Jakes Way and Daniel Street between June 11, 8:00 pm and June 12th, 6:45 am. Entry was made by smashing the front passenger windows, nothing was taken.

Canyon Country west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:

(1) Residential Burglary (Attempt), (4) Commercial Burglaries, (2) Vehicle Burglaries, (1) Shoplift, (1) Grand Theft and (2) Petty Thefts.

An attempt residential burglary occurred near the 18800 block of Mandan Street. The victim came home and noticed pry marks on the sliding glass door of the residence. Entry was not made and nothing was taken.

A commercial burglary occurred near the 19400 block of Soledad Canyon Road. An unknown suspect shattered the front glass door with a rock and kicked open an interior office door. It was unknown, at the time of the incident, if anything was taken.

Two additional door kick commercial burglaries occurred near the 26500 block of Summit Circle and the 27200 block of Luther Drive. Both incidents involved an outdoor custodial/electrical room door being kicked in. It was unknown if anything was taken. All three incidents are currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Station Detectives.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the parking lot of the 24 Hr Fitness located at 18645 Via Princessa. An unknown suspect punched the driver’s side door lock and pried open the door of the vehicle. Miscellaneous credit/debit cards were taken.

A vehicle burglary occurred near the 20200 block of Gilbert Drive. An unknown suspect shattered the rear driver’s side window of the vehicle and took miscellaneous credit/debit cards.

A male suspect was arrested for burglary/shoplifting near the 26400 block of Carl Boyer Drive. The suspect exited the location without paying for items he concealed under his shirt. The suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel and subsequently arrested by responding deputies.

Newhall

This week Newhall (Zone 6) saw eight part one crimes. Newhall had two assaults, one stolen vehicle, two commercial burglaries, and three petty thefts reported.

A 2001 red Pontiac Trans AM was stolen from the 22500 block of 8th Street in Newhall. The vehicle was locked, and the victim does not know who stole the vehicle (ref -08134).

A burglary to a structure was reported from the 24900 block of Hawkbryn Avenue. Items were damaged when the suspect(s) broke into the structure (ref -07947)

There was a vehicle burglary reported from the 21400 block of Plane Tree in Newhall. A jack hammer, Skill saw, and other items were stolen (ref -08084).

A cell phone was reported stolen from “The Vu” bar (ref -08088).

A GPS unit was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Thursday, 06/13/13 at approximately 10:00 a.m. This incident was reported from the 23600 block of Newhall Avenue (ref -08074).

On Friday, 06/14/13 at approximately 1:00 p.m. deputies responded to Eternal Valley Cemetery regarding a person possibly stealing metal piping. Deputies contacted the suspect and after an investigation, placed the suspect under arrest for charges relating to vandalism and petty theft. The suspect’s vehicle was towed from the location (ref -08115).

Saugus

There were only two reported Part-1 crimes this week in Saugus. The first was a residential burglary in the 22500 block of Arriba Drive on Friday, 06/14/13. The victim stated he believes an acquaintance broke into his residence and stole miscellaneous electrical equipment. He said he later located the acquaintance who was in possession of the stolen electrical equipment. The suspect fled from the location. Deputies are currently attempting to locate the suspect.

There was vehicle stolen from the 27400 block of Catala Avenue on Saturday, 06/08/13. The victim’s vehicle was taken from the driveway of the residence overnight. The vehicle was later recovered in LAPD’s area.

There were multiple arrests this last week in Saugus. The majority of the arrests were for narcotics related incidents. Drugs are the stem of the majority of property related crimes in Santa Clarita. Criminals are typically committing thefts to support their drug problem. Let’s continue to send the “Not in Santa Clartia” message to these criminals by continuing to be alert citizens and report any suspicious persons or activities.
