A Newhall man was released from San Fernando Superior Court on Wednesday after spending two days in jail for possession of a homemade bomb.

Kyle Todd Laser, 20, was arrested early Monday morning when a sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the end of Santa Clara Street.

According to Sgt. Gary Miller of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Deputy Daniel Alamillo found Laser and an unidentified female in the car, which was parked in the industrial area near the Soledad Canyon-Golden Valley Road intersection at 1:40 a.m.

“During his contact with the occupants, Deputy Alamillo learned there was a possible explosive device inside the vehicle,” Miller said in a report.

Alamillo searched the car and found a canister filled with an explosive powder and with a wick sticking out.

Miller said Friday he didn’t know the details of the device but said it was accurate to characterize it as  a homemade bomb.

Laser was booked at 3:47 a.m. on felony possession of a homemade destructive/explosive device and was held in lieu of $500,000 bail. Custody records show he was released Wednesday  afternoon following his arraignment. The records show no next court date, so it is unclear whether the case will be prosecuted.
