A memorial for a fallen sheriffs deputy will pit two teams of deputies against each other in a friendly game of softball.

The memorial is to honor Deputy Tim White who died in April due to an undiagnosed blood clot.

The game will be between the Pitchess Detention Center’s South and East facilities, and the teams will be made up of deputies.

Deputy White worked in the East portion of Pitchess, and according to his family loved softball.

The game will be held at Central Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 20.

Roger Gitlin, Whites step-father, is helping organize the event, which is being held to raise funds for the wife and two children White left behind.

“The purpose is to have people bond and remember, and if they can contribute it will be appreciated but if not it’s ok too,” said Gitlin.

Gitlin says there will also be similar events held in Merced County, and the city of Ukiah.

White was kidnapped in 1980, at the age of 5, by  convicted child molester Kenneth Parnell.  Two weeks after his abduction, White and another boy, Steven Stayner, at the time 14 and who had been held captive by Parnell for seven years escaped and fled to safety.

Gitlin credits Stayner for saving Whites life.

The softball game will be held in Merced County because it is where Stayner lives, and will pit the Sheriff’s against the local Police department.

“Tim was a salt of the earth kind of guy,” Said Gitlin.  “He was very uncomplicated, good at heart, genuine, great father, good human, and every parents dream child.  I miss him dearly.”
