Dodgers Putting Kids Behind The Mic For Home Games

The Los Angeles Dodgers debut the Jr. Dodgers Broadcast program today, giving young aspiring broadcasters an opportunity to hone their skills by calling actual games from Dodger Stadium’s Vin Scully Press Box.

The program, unique in Major League Baseball, will continue for each Sunday home game for the remainder of the season.  The live audio feed for the Jr. Dodgers broadcasts will be available for free at

These up-and-coming broadcasters will call games from the very same press box where Hall of Famers Vin Scully and Jaime Jarrín have worked since Dodger Stadium opened.

This rare opportunity is intended to inspire a future generation of broadcasters, while creating memories for those involved. The Dodgers are working alongside the Kidstar Radio Network ( to prepare the children for the broadcasts.

In addition to calling games from the Dodger Stadium broadcast booth, the broadcasters will get press credentials, conduct pre-game interviews with Dodgers players and staff, and provide content for the Jr. Dodgers website.  The play-by-play duties will be split amongst regulars Nick Berman and Jake Reiner, while the analyst position for the two-person team will feature a rotation of Jr. Dodgers Kids Club members.

Berman is a senior at Harvard-Westlake High School , where he has started several broadcast journalism programs, including play-by-play broadcasts of baseball games and a football highlight show. The Los Angeles native called a handful of Dodgers games last season from the Vin Scully Press Box while working in the team’s Fan Services department.  Nick is planning to study broadcast journalism at the University  of  Southern California ‘s  Annenberg   School  for Communications.  He will be joined in the booth this Sunday by Fabian Ardaya, a bilingual 7th grader with a 4.0 GPA at Andersen Junior High School in Chandler, AZ.

Reiner is currently a senior at Los Angeles’ Wildwood High School .  The LA native and lifelong Dodgers fan plans to study broadcast journalism in college.  Jake grew up idolizing Vin Scully, and last season had the honor of calling games from the Vin Scully Press Box while working in the Dodgers’ Fan Services department.

The broadcasts are available to children 14 and under as part of the new Jr. Dodgers Kids Club, presented by Kaiser Permanente.  Members have the chance to be selected as a Jr. Dodgers broadcaster, while also enjoying first access to all Jr. Dodgers Training Days, newsletters, and other special offers.
