Domestic Violence Center Board Writes The Community

khts_inthecommunitySPECIAL LETTER TO THE COMMUNITY

From the Domestic Violence Center of the SCV Board of Directors

These last few years have been very difficult ones for the Valley’s only Domestic Violence Center. Devastating cuts in state funding, loss of our offices and of our executive director, all within a few short months, have been challenging to say the least. The Board and Staff of the Domestic Violence Center, together with our dedicated community, have been working hard to overcome these challenges and despite these setbacks, we are thrilled to announce that we have a new Executive Director and a new home for the Center.

We are very pleased to introduce our new executive director, Tracy West, who accepted the position this week. Tracy is a Santa Clarita resident, and brings a wealth of experience to our Center. Tracy has served in a leadership capacity for the Orphan Foundation and has worked in marketing/communications and finance in the private sector. Her proven track record in fundraising, financial management and her dedication to those in need made her an excellent choice to lead our Agency into the next decade.

We also signed a new lease for office space in Old Town Newhall. Our new Center offices will allow the Domestic Violence Center to continue offering critical and necessary programs and services for those in need. The new office space is a true blessing to the Domestic Violence Center and those we serve, providing us with the space we need to service our 24-hour hotline, offer counseling, in-take and emergency services. The Domestic Violence Center also runs a shelter home in the community at a separate location.

Without the support and help from this community, these important achievements would not have been possible. Residents, community and business leaders have reached out to us, offering their expertise, their money, their time and most of all, their support to help us through these difficult and unchartered waters. While we still have many challenges to overcome, we are making great progress!

The future is brighter with our new director and our new offices, and together with our community, we will continue to provide the much-needed programs and services that will help end the cycle of violence and create safe homes for families. If you are interested in helping us, we would gladly welcome your assistance! You can contribute financially; you can volunteer your volunteer time; you can attend one of your events or you can donate a gift card. Your tax deductible donation can be made online or you may reach us at www.domesticviolencecenerscv.com or 661.259-8175.

Sincerely,

The Domestic Violence Center Board of Directors:

Mary Ree, President; Gail Ortiz, Vice-President; Jorja Harris, Secretary; Rob Stern, Treasurer; Board Members: Pamela Braly, Kelly Bruno, Brenda Cambra, Stacy Miller, Joe Powell, Adrian Simon and Betty Lou Wiseman
