Money will be raised for local women and families

On Monday, July 30th the Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley will host their inaugural Golf Tournament at Robinson Ranch Golf Course.  Bob Kellar, City of Santa Clarita City Council Member, and Chris Fall, Immediate Past Chair of the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce, have been named honorary co-chairs of the event set to kick-off with a shotgun start at 10:00am.

“The upcoming golf tournament encompasses two very important elements.  First, it will give us the opportunity to use a fun and relaxed setting to address the very serious issue and effects of domestic violence, as well as let people know that the Domestic Violence Center is here to help.  Secondly, we will be able to raise much needed funds to continue the proliferation of programs and services to aid domestic violence victim’s right here in Santa Clarita,” said Bob Kellar.

The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita serves victims of abuse and neglect within our community and strives to promote and preserve non-violent and non-abusive family systems through intervention, prevention and education.   In fiscal year 2005-2006, the Domestic Violence center served over 1,000 women and children via hotline, support group, and referral services.   The Domestic Violence Center is an impactful and empowering force that assists victims in overcoming domestic violence, as well as initiates processes to ensure a better quality of life for the future.

“Events such as the upcoming Golf Tournament help to raise funds for continued success and programs as well as heighten public awareness of abuse in relationships in an effort to eliminate the cycle of violence.  Additionally, the tournament will offer spectacular prizes for participants such as the opportunity to win a trip to Costa Rica, a live auction with great sports memorabilia, and more.  I am very excited to be a part of such wonderful event,” said Chris Fall.
