Domestic Violence Strikes In Canyon Country

Probation violator is in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 52-year-old woman was treated for injuries she received during a fight with her live-in boyfriend Sunday evening. The boyfriend, probation violator John Naglich, 49, was arrested for attempted murder and is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Station in lieu of $1 million bail.

The victim had been dating the suspect for a year and had been living with him in an apartment in the 28000 block of Whites Canyon for three months.  During the argument that sent her to the hospital, Naglich called her abusive names and hit her in the face, knocking her to the floor. She lost consciousness for a short time and came to when Naglich was holding her head with both hands, twisting her neck, and saying he was going to kill her.

She pleaded with him to let her go and she ran outside, yelling for help. A neighbor who saw her bleeding from the mouth and nose called the sheriff and deputies arrested Naglich for the attack.

The victim was treated at the hospital and released, after it was determined that her injuries were not life-threatening. She told deputies that this was the second time Naglich had hit her; the last incident left her with stitches in her mouth. She did not report that incident to the sheriff’s department.

Contrary to popular belief, domestic violence is not confined to any certain race, religion or income level.  In 2008, there have been 194 felonies and 151 misdemeanor domestic violence incidents reported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

There are many behaviors which mark an abusive relationship, such as put downs, intimidation, blaming, physical contact intended to cause pain, and isolating the partner by preventing them from spending time with family and friends.
