Ronald Lloyd Aviles, 57, of San Clemente, allegedly drove a vehicle that fatally struck Travis Marton on New Year’s Day and left the scene, according to a criminal complaint.

Officials with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office claim Aviles knowingly, willfully and unlawfully failed to immediately stop the vehicle after the Jan. 1 collision.

Aviles was found driving the vehicle that allegedly hit Marton shortly after the crash. He was arrested the same day, according to the felony complaint.

Aviles posted $50,000 bail and is set to be arraigned at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach early next month.

A Valencia man was killed in a suspected hit-and-run collision in Orange County on Thursday morning, officials said.

Travis Marton, 23, of Valencia, was believed to have been killed on a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach on New Year’s Eve sometime before 2:56 a.m., according to Sgt. Rachel Johnson.

“A passerby motorist said he thought that there was a dead person in the roadway,” she said.

Officials received a report shortly before 3 a.m. of a man reportedly lying in the road in a southbound lane.

The collision reportedly took place on a stretch of PCH known as East Coast Highway and Newport Coast Drive, Johnson said.

When NBPD officers responded, they found Marton, who was declared dead at the scene.

Marton was found near the intersection, and officers believe he was trying to cross the road when he was struck and killed.

Officers immediately put out an alert to surrounding law enforcement agencies looking for a vehicle that might have sustained collision damage.

Laguna Beach Police Department officers found Ronald Aviles, 56, of San Clemente, a short time later driving a white minivan that appeared to have been in a collision, Johnson said.

Aviles was questioned and then arrested for a felony hit and run, Johnson said, noting additional charges might be added later because the investigation was only 12 hours old and ongoing.

Officers suspect he “left the scene of an accident causing great bodily injury or death,” she said.

Drugs and alcohol are not expected to be factors in the crash at this time.

Aviles is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. He’s expected to be arraigned in an Orange County courthouse within the next few days.

  1. I can not believe that his bail was only $50,000.00!!!! He murdered someone and gets off on $50,000.00??? Travis was a second son to me and I am soooooo angry on this law! I am going to find a way to make bigger penalties for hit and runs. There are tooo many because the penalty is too easy to get off! How can someone hit and run someone??? not stop and keep going???? To sick. How can these people liive with them self for the rest of theer lifes??? They shouldn’t have a Rest of their liives!!!I hope this guy gets his dues!!!!! I love you Marton family and prayers sent that he gets what he deserves<3
