Bradley Smith, 28, of Lancaster died at the scene after his car became fully engulfed in flames, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The collision occurred at 6:51 a.m. Tuesday on the 35100 block of San Francisquito Canyon Road near Copper Hill Drive, with a report of possible persons trapped, according to Inspector David Michel with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“When we got to the scene, the patient was dead on arrival,” Michel said. “One other person was transported to the hospital.”
The other victim, Amy Porter, of Santa Clarita, was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with moderate injuries, said officials.
According to the CHP, Smith was southbound on San Francisquito Canyon Road in a white 2006 Kia Rio when he attempted to pass traffic and traveled into the northbound lane.

Porter, a resident of the Santa Clarita Valley, was driving a white 2010 Lexus ES350, northbound on San Francisquito Canyon Road.
While attempting a passing maneuver, the driver observed oncoming traffic, said CHP officials.
Smith then made an evasive turning movement to the right and traveled back onto the southbound lane and into the dirt right shoulder.
The deceased driver lost control of his Kia and traveled out of control back over the double yellow lines and into oncoming lanes, where his vehicle collided head-on with the Lexus.
San Francisquito Canyon Road was closed intermittently for most of the morning while an investigation was conducted.
