Deputies from the Parks Bureau saw two men trying to tread water and stay afloat and threw life rings and life jackets to them. They were pulled safely from the water. One dog was rescued from the water, but the other dog was found dead beneath the capsized boat.

Both men sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

As deputies talked with Rodriguez about the cause of the crash, they determined that he was the operator and that he showed signs of intoxication. They conducted a field sobriety test and subsequently arrested him on suspicion of boating under the influence and causing an injury.

He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where he remains in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Departments Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks and lakes.
