Early Feasts To Feature Food, Fellowship

Boys and Girls Clubs to gather and give thanks.khts_givingback

Thanksgiving will arrive a little early for some local children and families, as the Boys and Girls Club of the Santa Clarita Valley hosts its annual holiday feasts on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

The Sierra Vista and Val Verde Clubs will gather Tuesday evening at their respective clubhouses, with the Newhall Club meeting and eating on Wedneday.

Client families of Single Mothers Outreach will join the Boys and Girls at Sierra Vista Junior High, where they will enjoy 400 plates of food catered by Salt Creek Grille. The Santa Clarita Valley Auto Dealers Association is sponsoring that event, and dealers will help dish out the evening’s fare alongside board members from both organizations.

“This is just a great opportunity for the club kids and their families to get together and share their experiences. … It’s fun to hear how the club impacts their lives. We often have the parents get up and share what the club means to them,” said Bryan Lake, Director of Administration for the Club. “We’re always thrilled to be with the families we serve. It’s been a tough year for so many families and even for the club, and to get this kind of support from the Auto Dealers Association to feed 400 people, it’s amazing. It’s a way to start off the holiday season and recognize what’s important in life.”

Local business leaders also stepped in to help make the events possible.

Joe Messina, president of local web and IT company All Covered,  purchased the turkeys for one of the events.

And over the weekend, when the Val Verde Clubhouse found itself short a few fowl, they were helped by a last-minute contribution from the HackerBraly law firm. Now the dinner is expected to go off without a hitch.

In addition to the food, entertainment will be provided in the form of performances by Club kids. Families will also be able to enter a raffle for one of 25 Thanksgiving food baskets and several frozen turkeys.
