Precautionary safety training for an active shooter is set to happen next week, according to Castaic Union School District officials.

The training will take place inside a building, and is not considered a drill, according to Charmin Ortega, executive assistant to the superintendent.

“While this is not something that we wish to think about happening in our community,” officials said in a statement, “we believe it is in the best interest of our students, staff and families to be aptly prepared, for their safety and protection.”

The school district and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are set to hold a welcome-back breakfast and a two-hour active shooter training course on Tuesday, August 8.
