The city provides fiscal oversight for the Santa Clarita WorkSource Center, but COC officials operate the center, according to the City Council agenda.

The $502,503 grant, which represents an $8,801 increase from last year, helps fund the five-year, $232,200 lease at COC’s Valencia campus.

College officials recently agreed to reduce the rent paid on the lease by city officials by $1,720 per month to $3,870.

In October, city officials also approved the reallocation of city staff salaries in order to increase the amount of staff operating the center with the expectation that COC staff would reduce the costs of the lease.

City officials stated the decreased lease cost frees up more funding to staff the center.

The new lease rate results in a decrease in rental expenses of $103,215 over the next five years.

The program is designed to provide quality employment and training services to assist eligible individuals in finding and qualifying for meaningful employment, and to help employers find the skilled workers they need to compete and succeed in business, according to the City Council agenda.

The center offers year-round services for job-seekers, including computer access, resources to research and pursue job leads and workshops to improve job search skills and marketability.

The center also offers services to businesses, such as providing space and coordination for employee recruitments and interviews.

The center receives funding from the city through a grant obtained with help from the Antelope Valley Workforce Development Consortium.
