The two boards meet occasionally to discuss possible collaborations and shared goals for education in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The upcoming College of the Canyons and Hart District collaboration proposes to bring many of the opportunities provided by Academy of the Canyons to students of the new Castaic High School, according to officials.

The “Canyons North Academy” is currently set to provide:

  • Fully integrated curriculum with College of the Canyons enabling students to earn both high school and college credit
  • Robust Career Pathways
    • Allied Health Professions
    • Computer Science and Technology
    • Law and Public Safety
    • Specific areas will be evaluated based on input from prospective parents in Castaic and other parts of Santa Clarita Valley through a survey that is expected to be administered in October.
  • Completion of at least one year of college credit upon graduation from high school and opportunities for additional college credits to include progress towards an AA degree or UC/CSU transfer

Over the next 10 months, the districts will continue to seek additional input and refine the curriculum as marketing and promotion for the program begins, according to the agenda item.

Hart High School District Superintendent Vicki Engbrecht will give the presentation at the Wednesday, September 27, joint meeting at the College of the Canyons Art Gallery.
