With the Fall semester already in progress, administrators at College of the Canyons added 80 late-start classes to sections of academic and career exploration courses, with various start dates from October through November.
New courses will be available to students at both COC campuses in the Santa Clarita Valley as well as online. Course subjects will include: English, anthropology, communication studies, early childhood education, geography, history, photography, water technology, welding, sociology, business, health science, as well as computer applications and web technologies, according to college officials.
“We encourage our students and community members to explore additional class offerings this semester, which span a wide range of topics and skills,” said Dr. Jerry Buckley, assistant superintendent/vice president of Academic Affairs at the college
“Classes offered late in the semester are a great opportunity for currently enrolled students to add an extra class to their schedules to get ahead,” according to college staff. “In addition, students who choose to enroll in a late-start class at the college will have the added benefit of being classified as a returning student for the upcoming winter session registration period.
Returning students receive earlier registration dates, giving them an opportunity to select from more open classes.
The college is expected to offer nearly 300 classes during the winter session, which will run from January 2 to February 3.
