The Newhall School District was quick to issue a news release indicating that it had outperformed all other school districts in the Santa Clarita Valley; however, closer scrutiny of the data suggests that there were some significant errors and omissions in their analysis and comparison to Albert Einstein Elementary.

While it is uncertain why there were significant omissions of scores from Albert Einstein Academy in the publication of scores by Newhall, they were certainly incomplete.

Einstein Academy operates two elementary school campuses under the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District.  One of these was an existing elementary school located in Agua Dulce, which the district asked Einstein to operate, while the other campus is located in the Santa Clarita Valley at the site of the former Pinecrest school.

Data included in the Newhall District’s tables and graphs came only from the 96 students located on the Einstein campus in Agua Dulce.

Missing from their comparison were the results from the 501 Einstein Academy students, who attended the Santa Clarita elementary school campus, during the 2014-15 school year.

Test scores list

The Albert Einstein Academy, or AEA, community believes it is important to recognize the dedication, hard work, and commitment of Einstein Academy students and provide the public with the information that was previously omitted.

Newhall’s news release stating: “The Newhall School District outperformed all of the school districts in the Santa Clarita Valley at every grade tested level and for each subject (English-language arts and mathematics). Newhall also posted the highest percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced on the State’s fifth grade science test,” is certainly inaccurate, considering the scores listed above.

All school districts in the Santa Clarita Valley should feel proud of their accomplishment and AEA would like to congratulate all the students in the Santa Clarita Valley for their high achievement.

AEA will continue to focus on the academic growth of our students, development of our teachers, and the involvement of all those in our community to provide a unique and exciting educational experience for all that attend the Albert Einstein Academy.
