Joining radio host T. Katz for the segment was fourth grader Levi Davenport, third grader Faith O’Daniel, fifth grader Elijah DelRosario and first grader Jacob Lazar.

First to speak was 7-year-old Jacob, who was named the Legacy Christian Academy Student of the Week on March 29 for his impressive entry in the Santa Clarita private school’s STEM Expo.

As one of the youngest participants in an expo filled with sixth and seventh graders, Jacob was recognized for measuring how quickly different brands of soap dissolved in water using elements of science, engineering and math.

“We had six different kinds of soaps and we put them in six mason jars (filled with) water,” he explained. “We were trying to figure out which one will last the longest after seven days.”

Jacob brought the winning brand of soap — Irish Spring — into the studio, which he left as a gift for T. Katz.

Next to take the spotlight was Faith, who was chosen as the Legacy Christian Academy Student of the Week on April 19 for her role as Zazu in the school’s production of “The Lion King Jr.” and her talent on the basketball court.

“I had to have a special accent, because the voice I have is not what Zazu has,” she said of her role in the show. “He has more of an English accent.”

Last month, Faith — a third grader — scored 20 points in a single basketball game as part of a sixth grade team, living up to her reputation on the court as a “beast.”

“On the basketball court …  a lot of people call me ‘beast,’” she said, adding that the nickname inspired her to try for the role of Beast in the school’s upcoming production of “Beauty and the Beast.” “I was playing in another league and they said, ‘You’re too good for this,’ so I just moved up to sixth grade.”

Third to be featured on-air was Elijah, the Legacy Christian Academy Student of the Week on April 12. Elijah was selected for his winning entry in the STEM Expo and his role as Timon in “The Lion King Jr.”

“My project was about reverse engineering a hair dryer,” Elijah explained. “Reverse engineering is when you take apart a machine and then you find out what the components are and how they work.”

While playing Timon in the school’s drama production, Elijah noted he used more expression in his voice to match the character, and is excited to try out to be in “Beauty and the Beast.”

Last to take the spotlight was 10-year-old Levi Davenport, who was named the Legacy Christian Academy Student of the Week on April 26 for his inspiring fight against cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that causes difficulty breathing and persistent lung infections.

Despite his disease — which requires three 30-minute lung treatments and 25 pills per day — Levi plays football, soccer and basketball.

Last month, Levi raised $4,600 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as part of the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Walk held April 30 at the Westfield Valencia Town Center, earning him the No. 5 spot on the local fundraiser’s list of Top Striders.

“At the walk, you donate,” he explained. “You can donate money for cystic fibrosis.”
