The Office Depot Foundation and the National Foundation for Women Legislators have partnered on a program that donates backpacks to students in need of school supplies across the nation.

Councilwoman Marsha McLean will also be at the event to help with the distribution of backpacks and read a book to the students.

It’s expected to have 150 backpacks donated to participants of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita and other students who are in need.

The supplies offered inside the backpack include: a zippered pouch, pen, pencil with a sharpener, ruler, eraser and crayons.

They are recommended for students in grades kindergarten through third due to the supplies included in the backpack.

Last year, 2,100 backpacks were given to students in need across 23 states.

Backpacks will be given away to students who are present on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

More information about the program can be found on the Office Depot Foundation’s Facebook page here. The Old Town Newhall Library is located at 24500 Main St in Santa Clarita.
