Officials of the Newhall School District are planning to host Literacy Fair 2014 with several activities planned for the students.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 15 from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Oak Hills School in Valencia. There will be activities in the multipurpose room, library and outdoor areas.
The Literacy Fair provides students with an opportunity to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for one of their favorite books, according to the news release. Students will use display boards to present their finished projects.

“The event is open to the public we encourage everyone to attend,” said Julia Chandler, Literacy Fair chair. “We have a Scholastic Book fair and local author and musician, Kirk Jay Mueller. He is a newer author and former Newhall School District teacher.”
Officials will also have several reading themed activities, games and pizza for sale.

Student volunteers from neighboring junior high and high schools will be on campus to help with the activities, according to the news release.
More than 300 students are expected to participate in the event.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our talented and creative students to promote reading,” according to the news release.
