The damage is believed to be expensive due to the nature of the equipment that was sabotaged.

Lee Morrell, public information officer for the Saugus Union School District, declined to mention specifics of the damage due to the fact that it’s now part of a criminal investigation. “This is heavy damage, we don’t have an estimate on the cost, but it will be costly.”

The damage also included vandalism of computer equipment in the school’s computer lab, and causing disarray in the school’s library.

Officials believe the vandalism occurred Wednesday night. School officials learned of the damage Thursday morning and called deputies to the Saugus elementary school.

“We received a call for service at 7:37 a.m. regarding a report of a burglary and vandalism that occurred at Mountainview Elementary School,” said Lt. Mohrhoff of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “It appears there’s a computer lab that was broken into.”

Numerous computers were damaged, and it’s unclear what if anything  was stolen at this time, as deputies are still investigating the initial report as of Thursday morning.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call the Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
